If you’ve arrived here, then you’ve read at least the fourth chapter of the fic by this title and are curious about why I chose the title as I did.
It’s a line from the George and Ira Gershwin song “A Foggy Day in London Town,” the lyrics of which go like this:
A foggy day in London town
Had me low, had me down.
I viewed the morning with alarm;
British Museum had lost its charm.
How long, I wondered, would this thing last?
But the age of miracles hadn’t passed.
For suddenly I saw you there,
And through foggy London town
The sun was shining everywhere.
I always associate this song, especially the last three lines, with the scene in “Warlock” where Steed is trying to convince Cathy to come up to his flat, and she drives off suddenly. But instead of being offended, Steed breaks into a smile. He has been absolutely floored by this woman. He can’t wait to see her again, and he wants her to be a part of his life.
So I thought that “For Suddenly I Saw You There” would also be an apt title for a fic where Steed unexpectedly meets Cathy so many years after their relationship ended, in a place that is also well known for its fog.
